TTS delivers the Port of Gothenburg Linkspan 14.12.2005

TTS Group, Gothenburg, Sweden, has officially delivered a linkspan to the Port of Gothenburg

TTS Group, Gothenburg, Sweden, has officially delivered a linkspan to the Port of Gothenburg, Sweden’s largest Ro/Ro port. The Linkspan is part of Stora Enso’s North European Transport Supply System (NETSS) project and involves a linkspan, which is positioned at Berth 702, in Alvsborgshammen. As part of an upgrade of this berth, the TTS Linkspan offers an enhanced flexible loading/unloading operation for those vessels using the berth.

The new Linkspan 14,5 meter long and 24 meter wide, will connect the vessels’ stern ramps to the quay. The structure is designed for a traffic flow with StoraEnso Cargo Units (SECU) in three lanes simultaneously. The Translifters are of type LTH90S delivered by TTS Liftec OY. There will also be other vehicles operating on the Linkspan, such as terminal tractors - handling trailers.

The Linkspan, which is expected to be used some 12 hours each day, is hinged in the entrance end and movable in the outer end via hydraulic cylinder located at towers at each end of the quay sides. The Linkspan is fixed during unloading/loading operations and operated easily to various fixed levels.

Sweden’s Stora Enso, headquartered in Stockholm, is an integrated paper, packaging and forest products company producing publication and fine papers, packaging boards and wood products, areas in which the Group is a global market leader.

NETSS will enhance cost efficiency and improve services. It will also serve as a platform for further development of Stora Enso's transport and distribution services in Europe. The previous shipping services from southern Finland to the UK and Belgium will be replaced by a next-generation system based on the "hub and spoke" principle, with Stora Enso Cargo Units (SECUs) as the main cargo carrier.

There are two TTS Divisions in Gothenburg, both part of Norway’s TTS Marine, Bergen - TTS Port Equipment, part of Port & Material Handling Division, which was established earlier this year (2005) for land-based operations related to shipyard systems, and onshore Ro/Ro and container handling, and TTS Ships Equipment, part of TTS Dry Cargo Division.

Apart from the Linkspan delivered to the Port of Gothenburg, TTS recently inaugurated a upper deck system to the Port of Karlskrona (Sweden) for the Stena Line’s service between Karlskrona’s Verko Terminal and the Polish Port of Gdynia.
